GIS Running Club Program Overview
Fees: $35.00 without shoe pruchase, $65.00 with shoe purchase.
Mission: Our after school kids’ club has a mission to encourage physical exercise primarily through running and healthy eating. We encourage the children to set personal goals for the season. We will end the season with a 5K Fun Run. For many, this is their first 5K race. We have found by staging this run it helps the participants get over the nervousness of being in their first 5K. We partner with the Kayla 5K organizers and encourage our club members to make that their first organized event. We bring in multiple guest speakers to help educate the students on a variety of related topics. We will keep parents informed via an email distribution list.
Logistics:
We will meet twice a week, on Mondays and Wednesdays 3:45-4:30 in the Gym and dismiss from inside the gym. We will begin the week of 4/9 and end on 5/23.
Shoe sponsor:
We are so excited that this year Asics will be sponsoring our club again!! For an additional $30.00, participants will receive a high quality technical running shoe. A wide range of sizes are going to be available. Our sponsor, Second Sole from Gahanna, will be onsite for a one day shoe fitting/ordering. After that date, if you want to utilize the shoe registration level, you’ll need to go to their Gahanna store (Hamilton & Morse road) for a fitting.
Important Dates:
• On site custom Shoe Sizing event: Monday 3/19 at 3:45, GIS Gym.
• First date 4/9
• End of year 5K – Monday, 5/21 at 3:45. Parents – please come and cheer for your students!!
• Pizza party – 5/23 provided by our sponsors – Second Sole & Donatos Pizza of Heath/Newark!!! Held at the GIS shelter house!
Inclement Weather:
We will still meet and use the GIS Gym versus going outside. If school is canceled for any reason, the Running Club will not meet.
Behavior:
It’s expected the children will participate and try their best and follow the direction of the coach in charge. We run the length of the GIS driveway. We do not go on the road at all. However, there is still traffic on the driveway and we need the children to understand ensuring their safety is our priority. Their cooperation is imperative.
