2013 BALLPARK LEAGUE PARENT INFORMATION
The GRD Ballpark League offers baseball and softball playing experiences for the children who live within the Granville Recreation District. We strive to teach the importance of teamwork, sporting behavior, and fundamental skill development. We hope your child experiences the joys of playing ball within the league.
We believe that team parity is important to an enjoyable playing experience. Team parity depends on an equitable distribution of participants among the teams, we therefore distribute participants to team using a draft. Before an effective draft process can take place it is important to develop a reasonable familiarity with each participant’s emotional, physical, and skill development. To gauge each child on these factors we conduct a participant skill evaluation (baseball March 2nd & March 10th; softball March 10th & March 16th). If your child is new to our league, entering a new age division of play, or has opted to be redrafted to a new team, they will be scheduled to participate in one of these evaluation dates.
A player may opt out of returning to his or her prior team and re-enter the draft process. Parents must submit a written request to the League Commissioner explaining why they desire their child be returned to the draft pool prior to the sport’s first skill evaluation date. The League Commissioner, Coach Coordinator, and GRD Youth Sports Director will be evaluating and selecting head coaches prior to March 2nd. Parents will be notified through the www.granvillerec.org as to the head coaches at the 8U, 10U, and 12U levels.
We segment the playing development process by age groups, we recognize that children have unique emotional and physical developmental rates. Therefore our league does offer parents of children who are both emotionally and physically capable to request permission to play up one level (6U to 8U; 8U to 10U; 10U to 12U). A request of this nature must be offered to the League Commissioner prior to the first skill evaluation date (baseball-March 2, 2012; softball-March 10th). The child will be granted a spot within the skill evaluation process and graded by the attendant Ballpark League personnel. The League Commissioner, Chair, and Player Agent will examine the resulting grades and determine if the child qualifies for participation within the requested age division.
This league is comprised of volunteer coaches, concession stand workers, and ball-field maintainers. We encourage you to take an interest in the Ballpark League and your child’s playing experience by offering the gift of your time and talent.

6U (T-Ball/Baseball):
At this level (4-6 years) our goal is to help your child begin to develop an awareness of the game structure and fundamental skills of baseball. We will also strive to facilitate the children as they begin to form a Granville playing group that will progress within the sport of baseball together.
Practices for T-Ball/baseball will be one day each week for 1-hour between 6-7pm. Practices will be held on one of the following days each week (M, Tu, Th, F) at either RVP or GES. A specific practice day and practice location will be assigned to each team. Players will be assigned to a team according to parent schedule whenever possible.
T-Ball/baseball games will be played 9 – 10am each Saturday (May 18 – June 22) at RVP. Games will be for 1-hour. T-Ball/baseball teams may play Granville T-Ball/softball teams. Boys and girls are free to register for either T-Ball/baseball or T-Ball/softball.
