Process of Team Selection

6U division baseball & softball teams are appointed by GRD staff. 

8U, 10U, & 12U divisions will start the season with a player evaluation. Coaches will then use that information to draft teams.

8U, 10U, 12U  Player Evaluation Prior To Draft

The Baseball Player Evaluation date is TBA. Specific player evaluation times will be emailed to parents ahead of time.

If your child is:

  1. New to our league
  2. Entering a new age division of play
  3. Has received GRD permission to be redrafted onto a new team

Your child will be scheduled to participate in the evaluation. Children will be expected to throw/catch, hit, field ground balls, catch pop flies. More details will follow.   

Petition To “Play-Up”

We segment the playing development process by league age. We recognize that children have unique emotional and physical developmental rates and therefore the GRD does offer parents of children who are both emotionally and physically capable too request permission to “play-up” one level.

“Play-up” Options:

  1. 6U to 8U
  2. 8U to 10U
  3. 10U to 12U

“Play-up” Petitions

1.  Must be in writing

2.  Must be sent to the GRD Youth Sports Director via email by Monday, February 22, 2022.  

3.  The child must attend their evaluation appointment.

All-Star Teams

As the end of the regular season nears the 8U, 10U, 12U coaches will begin the process of naming All-Star teams.  The Granville Recreation District understands that teams such as these are desirable for some families and children within our community.  Therefore the process by which these teams are selected must be distributed before to the selection process takes place. 

If selected to an 8U, 10U, or 12U All-Star team, the family/child is free to decline or accept. If a family accepts the invitation to participate there will be a registration fee required. 

Each All-Star team will have the opportunity to appear within three separate post-season tournaments.

 6U (Baseball):

Practices for 6U baseball will begin in April. Practices will be one day each week for 1-hour . Practices will be held during the week at RVP. A specific practice day and practice location will be assigned to each team.  

6U baseball games will be played  Saturday (May – June) at RVP.  There will be no games on Memorial Day weekend.  Games will be for 1-hour.  6U baseball teams may play Granville 6U softball teams.  Boys and girls are free to register for either 6U baseball or 6U softball. 

6U baseball players will receive a team shirt and hat.

8U (Coach Pitch/Baseball):

Rules that are incorporated at this level include strike-out (3-strikes OR 5 pitch maximum) and the 3-out rule.  Games are 6-innings in length (2-hour maximum).  Game score is recorded.  All team members will appear in the batting order without regard to participation on defense.  All participants will play defense for a minimum of 6-outs.

We try to schedule games for Wednesday evenings at 6 pm.  Games are also scheduled for Saturday morning at 10 am from April through June  (8-weeks).  It is expected that teams may participate in a preseason tournament and a post-season tournament (after last regular season game).  Practices will begin in late March.  One weekday practice will be scheduled to begin at 6:00 pm and last a maximum of 2-hours. 

10U (Minors League) Baseball:

Rules that are incorporated at this level include opponents player as the pitcher, the classic strike-out, and base stealing.  Games are 7 innings in length (2-hour maximum).  Game score is recorded.  All participants will play defense a minimum of 6-outs.

Games will be held on Tuesday and Thursday evenings at 6:00 pm throughout the regular playing season (subject to change).  Practices will be scheduled on Saturday afternoon at either 1:00 or at 3:30 pm (subject to change).  Regular playing season will begin in late April and continue through June .  It is expected that teams will participate in a preseason tournament and a post-season tournament.  Practices will begin in late March.  During the preseason weekday practices are scheduled to begin at 6:00 pm and last a maximum of 2-hours.

Communities Participating- Granville, Johnstown, Utica, Northridge, Reynoldsburg

12U (Majors League) Baseball:

Games will be held on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday evenings at 6:00 pm throughout the regular playing season. Practices will be scheduled on Saturday afternoon at either 1:00 or at 3:30 pm. Regular playing season will begin in late April and continue until June (8-weeks). It is expected that teams will participate in a preseason tournament and a post-season tournament. Practices will begin in late March. During the preseason weekday practices are scheduled to begin at 6:00 pm and last a maximum of 2-hours. Regular playing season will begin in late April and continue until June (8-weeks).

13U (Babe Ruth) Baseball:

Many Licking County communities participate in the Babe Ruth League. All games are played at Don Edwards Park in Newark. The 13U team is formed from 7th-grade students who live within the Granville Recreation District.  Head coach and additional details will follow.  

14U (Babe Ruth) Baseball:
