Who We Are

The Granville Recreation Commission was organized in 1970 and chartered as a not-for-profit corporation the following year.  In 1972 the Granville voters approved a local levy for a one-half mill "for the purpose of providing a comprehensive recreation program for the Granville community". In 2005 the community passed a .5 mill increase for a total of 1 mill to operate on. In early 2009, the Granville Recreation District was created by joint resolution of the Village of Granville, Granville Township and The Granville Exempted School District.  In November, voters passed a Recreation Levy to fund the district.

The GRD sponsors the Concert on the Green Summer Series, Easter Egg Hunt, Senior Holiday Dinner and events during the Kiwanis 4th of July Celebration.  In its sports programs, the GRD stresses recreation and particiaption rather than competition, especially for the younger children.  Youth team sport offerings include soccer, football, baseball, softball, wrestling, cheerleading, basketball, adult soccer, volleyball and basketball, as well as clinics in many others.  We sponsor activites for middle and high school students and conduct a wide variety of other education al and recreational activities for citizens of all ages.

Granville Rec programs are held throughout Granville at a variety of facilities including Raccoon Valley Park, McPeek Lodge, Wildwood Park, Spring Valley Nature Preserve, Granville Schools, Teen Center, Robbins Hunter Museum, etc.

The GRD is interested in EXPANDING our program offerings. Are you interested in teaching an evening or weekend class or offering a special program?
