Announcing Big Changes For Middle School!

Posted on June 18th, 2012 by Lara

As you might be aware, we had a soccer meeting on Monday, June 3rd at 7 PM at Village Hall for anyone that may be interested in hearing about and discussing the improvements the GRD is making to our fall soccer program.  After discussing options that evening and getting community feedback, we are pleased to announce the following changes to our fall middle school program.

From a coaching perspective we are finalizing the selection of certified coaches.  The coach will be teamed with parent assistants.  The program will have an “academy” flavor focusing on development of fundamentals and individual skills.  Ian McConnell, Andy Male, and Todd Belt will be the head coach, assistant coach and “lead” assistant parent respectively for the boy’s squad.  Julie York, Rick Semer, and Justin Kerchoffer will be the head coach, assistant coach and “lead” assistant parent respectively for the girl’s squad.

Program registration will begin June 17th.  Evaluations will begin July 15th.  We will select a Blue and White team based on evaluations by the coach.  The fee for the Blue team will be $350.  The fee for the white team will be $300.  The Blue Team will be receiving in game coaching from the certified coach.  The White Team will receive in game coaching from a parent assistant. The academy flavor of coaching enables BOTH teams, and coaches, to receive training and development.  Coach McConnell will determine the conference and level in which the teams will participate.  Both MSSA and MOSSL are a possibility.  Ultimately, we want to make the best decision for each team ensuring the best possible experience.

The initial registration process will only include a $300 Fee.  After the evaluations Blue Team members will be required to pay the additional $50.

Practices and home games will take place at Wildwood and Raccoon Valley Park.

The program will include a spring season if you are interested.  The spring season is independent of the fall and is not mandatory.

Again, if you have potential coaching candidates or are interested in volunteering please contact me.

You have received this e-mail because of interest you expressed to one of our parent volunteers.

If you have any questions please do not hesitate to contact Andy Wildman.
