The GES 3rd grade chess team of Dylan Gibson, Ross Winters, Ethan Schell and George Turner finished second place in the 3rd grade unrated section of the Queen City Classic, which took place March 30th. The Queen City Classic is a chess tournament which takes place in Paul Brown Stadium in Cincinnati. The Queen City Classic is also one of the largest scholastic chess tournaments in the state of Ohio. What makes their accomplishment even more impressive is that although the top four scores counted for the team, these boys were facing teams with many more players, and yet they persevered. They have shown themselves to be incredibly skilled chess players, and more importantly have shown a resolute commitment to the game. They experienced the ups and downs of a chess tournament, winning some incredibly good games in order to accomplish this amazing feat. It can truly be said that they have made Granville proud with their accomplishments. At all times they represented Granville very well and hopefully made a few friends along the way. These boys we have no doubt will grow up into very bright young men, and will hopefully continue their very promising chess careers. We are incredibly proud of the accomplishments of these boys, and hope that they will continue to represent Granville in such a positive light in the future.
