SNOW GLOBE MAGIC

There is so much magic in a snow globe. Getting to hold a miniature world in your hands and watch snow swirl and swoop all around the scene is absolutely mesmerizing for kids– and getting to make their own snow globe is even more exciting! They especially love shaking up the little globe and watching the snow swirl and bring the scene to life. The GRD will provide the materials and instructions to make the snow globe at home, except a glue gun. Video link will be also available to guide you through the process.

WHAT DO YOU SEE MR. GROUNDHOG?

The legend of Groundhog Day is that on the morning of February 2nd, if a groundhog can see its shadow, there will be six more weeks of winter. If it can not see its shadow, spring is on the way. Participants will make a craft depicting a groundhog coming out of its home to predict the weather and read the book Go To Sleep Groundhog! By Judy Cox.

POT OF GOLD HUNT

The GRD staff has been working with the magical leprechauns, those tiny little men that are often dressed like a shoemaker. Celebrate the Irish holiday by searching for the sign and pot of “gold” on one of the trails in each park. You don’t have to be Irish to join in the fun while exploring the parks.

WINTER HIKES

Join us at Spring Valley Nature Preserve for a fun hike! Winter time is a great time to be on the trails to see the beauty of this property. With the trees bare you can see the valley and stream as you hike the top ridge. We will give a brief history of the property as we look for tracks and other signs that animals leave behind. End the hike with hot chocolate and s’mores by the fire. Meet guide, Greg Dixon at the shelter house.
