ATTENTION PARTICIPANTS:

As part of the changing youth sports landscape and the always evolving safety protocols there is a new Ohio Bill that has been passed. The new Bill is Lindsay’s Law, which deals with Sudden Cardiac Arrest in youth ages 19 and under who participate in sports and recreation programming. In accordance with the Bill and the GRD’s dedication to providing the safest environment for our community there are additional materials, which are attached, that are required for you to review and sign.

As we begin fall sports, we want to make this information as accessible to our users as possible. The SCA Handout and the Signature Form can be found here must be returned to the GRD in order for your child to participate in GRD activities effective August 1st, 2019.  The link to the informational video, which is required to be viewed can be found here.

The GRD will be on hand for the first week of practice to answer questions and to collect the Signature Forms. You can also sign the attached Signature Form and return it to the GRD, or stop by the GRD office, located at 130 N. Granger Street, to sign and or drop off the Signature Form.

*If you do not bring the form or are present at the first day of practice to sign the form, your child will Not be able to participate in practice or games until the GRD receives a signed form. Also, please make sure if you do bring the signed form with you, both parent and child signatures are on it.*

General GRD Youth Sports Leagues Information

The Granville Recreation District is proud to offer a wide variety of Youth Sports Leagues. The GRD is dependent upon the use of Volunteer Coaches for many of our Youth Sports Leagues. Please email AJ Gaul (Youth Sports Director) at ajgaul@granvillerec.org to become a Volunteer Coach or with questions regarding any GRD Youth Sports Leagues.

All GRD Coaches must complete a background check & concussion training – both of which are good for two years. We look forward to providing your child with a fun and great experience!

In the paragraphs below you will find more detailed information on the team sports offered through the GRD.

Tennis – Fall & Spring

Players need to know the basics of tennis. Practices 1-2 days a week. Matches are played at home and away in Columbus Area Suburbs/Licking County. Approximately 6 per season.

Soccer – Spring & Fall

Our Soccer program is for boys and girls Pre-K through the 8th grade. The divisions are as follows: Pre-K (co-ed), Kindergarten (co-ed), 1st grade (co-ed), 2nd grade (co-ed) & 3rd/4th grade (separate boys and girls division),  5th/6th grade (separate boys and girls division), 7th /8th grade (separate boys and girls division).

Lacrosse – Spring

Our lacrosse program is for boys and girls 1st – 8th grade and will focus on learning basic ball and stick handling in a clinic format. Players in 3rd/4th, 5th/6th and 7th/8th grades will be a league format with multiple practices a week & games typically on the weekends.

Baseball/Softball – Spring/Fall

Our baseball program is composed of the following divisions: Babe Ruth (13u & 14u); Majors (12u); Minors (10u); Coach Pitch (8u); and T-Ball/Baseball (6u). Our Little League is composed of the Minor and Major divisions. Our Coach Pitch and older divisions play teams from Granville and other Licking County communities. The T-ball division only plays other Granville teams.

Our Softball program is composed of the following divisions: 12u, 10u, 8u (machine pitch) and and T-Ball/Softball (6u and under). The girls will play on Granville teams that participate in the Central Ohio Girls Fast Pitch Softball league that is composed of teams from in around Licking County. Practices and games could be various days of the week.

Granville Stingrays Swim Team- Summer

FOCUS: A fun, recreational, learn-to-swim team for all children ages 5-18. Includes introductory instruction along with extensive summer conditioning and stroke work for advanced swimmers.

FORMAT: Participate in Tri County Aquatics League. The team practice at the Licking County YMCA Outdoor Pool Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, Friday. Approximately, 6 swim meets, plus a Championship meet. Swimsuit and googles are required.

SEASON DATES: 6/5/2023- approx. 7/18/2023

PRACTICES: Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, Friday 7:00-9:00am (time varies based on assigned training group)

SWIM MEETS: 6 swim meets, plus Championship Meet
June 10- at Pickerington Tiger Sharks
June 14- at Dresden
June 24- at Groveport Fighting Fish
July 1- Home vs Valley View
July 8- Home vs Johnstown – Northridge
July 12- at Chevington Woods Kingfish
July 18- Champs at Dresden

UNIFORM: Team T-Shirt and Swim Cap Provided, Team swim suit may be purchased for an additional cost

In 2023 there is no additional membership that needs purchased. This is why there is a price increase in 2023.

Football – Fall

Our Football program is for boys entering the 1st through 6th grades in the fall. Boys entering 1st/2nd will play in the GRD Flag Football League. Boys entering 3rd/4th and 5th/6th grades will play tackle football. Flag football teams will compete against other GRD teams and the tackle teams will play in the Licking County Youth Football League.

*Registration will be available online. Participants must attend the equipment fitting for equipment.

Cheerleading- Fall

3rd/4th Grade & 5th/6th Grade Information

3rd/4th Grade participants will  be cheering for the 3rd/4th Grade GRD Tackle Football teams.

5th/6th Grade participants will be cheering for the 5th/6th Grade GRD tackle football teams

Both age groups cheer for Granville teams that play in the Licking County Youth Football League.  Games will take place both in Granville and through out Licking County.

1st/2nd Grade Information

Registration for 1st/2nd Grade cheerleading will take place with all other fall sports leagues.  1st/2nd Grade participants will be cheering for 1st/2nd Grade GRD Flag Football teams.  All games will be on Sunday afternoons and will take place in Granville.

Field Hockey – Fall

Field Hockey League:

Grades 6, 7, & 8:      The GRD Field Hockey program’s mission is to provide a quality program for the girls of Granville to learn the sport of field hockey. This program is built on individual skill development that is expressed through a team concept. This program is for girls entering 6th-8th grade in the fall.

Archery – Winter 

GMS & GHS Archery     Grades: 7-12
The Granville Middle School and High School archery season will begin with the first practice Wednesday September 21, 2019. Those interested are encouraged to attend the first couple weeks to give archery a try. Practices will take place Monday’s, Wednesdays and Fridays at 6:30 AM at the Granville Middle School gym for approximately one hour. Due to the many other sport commitments, attending all practices at the school is not  mandatory and independent practices are encouraged. A maximum of 24 team members for the middle school and 24 team members for the high school can attend tournaments. Wrestling – Winter

Our Wrestling program is for boys & girls in Kindergarten through 6th grades. The focus of the program is to promote the sport of wrestling to Granville youth by having fun while working hard to learn the fundamentals skills of wrestling. The wrestling team competes against other participating Licking County schools.
