JUMP START YOUR RESEARCH PAPER
Get a head-start on your junior or senior research paper. Develop a topic, thesis, statement, and works cited page. Have one–on-one assistance from GHS English teachers. WHY? Some students requested a summer class that would motivate them to get their research paper done early. During the school year, freshman and sophomores are still learning the research process, and they devote several weeks of class time to producing their paper. Because the upperclassmen are applying this knowledge independently, the summer class will supplement and extend the basic classroom review during the school year. Additionally, individual guidance and tutoring will be available for those students who feel they need remediation or would like questions answered immediately. Goals: Day One: Review research paper requirements; generate a topic and a thesis statement. Day Two: Review MLA format and documentation of sources: begin research process. Day Three: Continue finding and evaluating sources; create a works cited page. Day Four: Review note taking strategies and develop areas of concentration for research; develop an outline. Day Five: Begin annotated bibliography and writing paper.
